Hostels in Russia have their own popularity and tangible advantages. At the same time, the laws poorly controlled the activities of this type of hotels. Therefore, tourists could get into an unpleasant situation. At first glance, beautiful photos can hide an apartment building with dissatisfied neighbors. Or even worse – a basement, where the appropriate ventilation is not provided for. But since October of this year, improvements have begun.
A law has come into force prohibiting the provision of hotel services in the residential premises of an apartment building. Of course, this does not mean that all hostels in residential buildings will close. If the owner receives a non-residential status, such an institution will be able to continue its activities. Accordingly, the active regulation of such a business has begun, which the owners of the establishments are dissatisfied with.
Conscientious hostels, of course, will receive a non-residential status and equip the premises with all the necessary equipment. Such as sound insulation of rooms, safes, alarm systems, will provide fire safety, will make a separate entrance so as not to disturb the residents of the house, will have all the necessary means for cleaning and sanitary cleaning of rooms. By the way, such a status can be obtained only on the ground floor. There is an exception for the floor above, provided that there is no residential floor below them. These are the minimum requirements that hostels are required to fulfill, otherwise they will not be able to continue their work.
This federal law, of course, will damage the hotel business and a wave of closures will follow, or there will already be illegal establishments that will be outlawed. Experts predict an increase in prices in those places that will fulfill all the conditions for the transfer of premises to non-residential. But the main advantage will be given to residents of houses where hostels are located. Because they are the first to receive the full range of inconveniences from such a business. And, of course, the guests themselves will be able to book this type of hotel without fear. After all, few people will like to spend the night in a poorly ventilated, humid and not very safe institution. Perhaps this will bring Russian hostels to a new level, or maybe this business will die, giving way to mini-hotels and daily apartment rentals.
